Democracy
thrives in
the light.

We are here to shine that light to protect democracy in
Cleveland Heights.

Our Values & Conditions for Democracy

Many organizations have identified what they see as the core values of democracy and the conditions on which its health depends. The United Nations has described what it means and needs from a global perspective, and the Civil Liberties Union for Europe has listed what they see as its aims and needs, according to the context of the European Union. There are several more organizations that have published their view on the topic, each defining democracy and its requirements through the lens of the culture they represent and the size of the communities they serve.

When we sat down to describe what democracy means on a local level and how we can support it right here in Cleveland Heights, we thought about what democracy looks like on a smaller scale and how we can impact its strength through our own expectations, involvement, and activism.

What We Do

“Democracy is a process, not a static condition. It is becoming, rather than being. It can easily be lost, but never is fully won. Its essence is eternal struggle.”

Federal Judge William H. Hastie
